Brief Bio-Data of Prof. Ashok Kumar, Ex. Director H.B.T.I., Kanpur Prof. Ashok Kumar obtained Master’s degree in Physics from Agra University in 1974 and the Ph.D. degree in Physics from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1980. He visited University of Limoges, France as post doctoral fellow on French Govt. scholarship for one year (July 1980 – July 1981). Then, he worked in IIT-Kanpur as a research associate for two years, (1981 – 1983). He joined as faculty in H.B.T.I., Kanpur in July 1983 and is working here since then. Presently, he is Professor of Physics and Director of H.B.T.I., Kanpur. During his academic career, Prof. Kumar has published about 300 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented more than 100 papers in various national and international conferences. He has guided 22 Ph.D. students so far and has completed seven research project sponsored by various national and international agencies. Apart from the academic work, Prof. Kumar has worked on various important administrative positions in the Institute. He was Assistant co-ordinator of state level Entrance Exam for two years (1990 and 1991). He has worked as Dean of Students Welfare, Dean analysis and development, Superintendent of Exam., Convener of the photography club, Professor Incharge Library, Professor incharge Central Stores. He headed the department of Physics for about 13 years. Prof. Kumar has extensively worked in the area of amorphous semiconductors, particularly on amorphous silicon and chalcogenide glasses. He has contributed significantly on photo-conductivity, a. c. conductivity, thermoelectric power, high field effects, space charge limited currents, thermally stimulated currents in chalcogenide glasses. A lot of work has also been done on Xray spectroscopy, crystallization kinetics by DSC and photo-crystallization in chalcogenide thin films. Prof. Kumar is on the advisory committee for two international journals and on the review panel of more than 20 international journals. He has organized a three days national conference on disordered materials as convener and also a two days state level faculty interaction seminar at H.B.T.I., Kanpur as co-ordinator. Prof. Kumar has the research collaboration with various institutes / universities like I.I.T.-Kanpur, B.H.U. Varanasi, MMMUT-Gorakhpur, University of Rajasthan-Jaipur, Jamia Milia Islamia-New Delhi, M. D. University-Rohtak, Panjab University-Chandigarh. Prof. Kumar has helped about 20 Ph.D. students of these universities and has published papers with their collaboration. Prof. Kumar is a life member of Indian Association of Physics Teachers and Thermo-physical Society of India. Prof. Kumar is well known for his expertise in the area of experimental Solid State Physics, Material Science, Thin Films Technology and Material Characterization. He has more than 2900 citations with H-index-27 and i-10 index 93 on Google Scholar citations. He has earned more than 300 impact points. His ResearchGate score is 92.84 which is above than 97.50 % of the Research Gate members throughout the world. Prof. Kumar is the convener of R.D.C. of U. P. Technical University-Lucknow, Integral University-Lucknow, IFTM University-Moradabad. He is on Board of studies of MMMUT-Gorakhpur, KNIT-Sultanpur, BIET-Jhansi and has also been the member of selection committee in these institutions.
